It has a surface area of 318.7 km ² and a population of more than thirty-five thousand inhabitants. It is 25m over the sea level and 70 km from Murcia, the capital of the Region.
Its geographical location in the Mediterranean arch, and specifically in the so-called Gulf of Mazarrón, has provided the town with a number of characteristics which have shaped its manner, that is the fruit of diversity of people and cultures which have settled on its territory.
